Exam Results

Hello,
As you may know, today is GCSE Results Day in the UK.
Earlier, my friends and I collected our results. We were really nervous and apprehensive and convinced ourselves we were going to fail. However, after getting my results, I don't really see what I was worried about (I did pass the exams I took early). Obviously, if no-one else puts loads of pressure on you, then you put it on yourself: 'You are your own worst enemy'.
What I'm trying to say is if you pass then that's great! You won't have to resit and have a qualification- well done! But if you have 'failed' or haven't got what you wanted/needed/expected, then that's fine too. As long as you know you have tried your absolute best, there's nothing much more you could of done and you can always resit at some point and maybe you'll do better.
Good luck to everyone getting results, or even doing an exam!
Thanks for reading!!
Bye!!

Butlins Skegness: Review from a teenage perspective

Hello,
So, on the 26th of July 2013, my family and I went to Butlins Skegness for the last time (I've been 13/14 times). Once we got there and got the keys, we went to our accommodation (Kingfisher Court).

After we unpacked, my friend Beth and I took three of my little cousins to the 'dome' as we call it, but it's actually called the skyline pavilion and watched the Crazy Dunkers and then to the giant beach where they really enjoyed playing with the sand and props. Then, in the evening, we went to the cinema to see this is the end.

The next day, alot of us went swimming in the new splash Waterworld. It was set out almost the same as it was before, but it does look much cleaner as it's new- not that it was dirty before! The new kid's play area (inside) was much better and the kids enjoyed it as there were 3 mini slides and water guns. However, the the surface of the kids area is quite rough for grip so be cautious of that. Also, the slides seemed much better-not that I went on any!  Then on the night we went to centre stage to see the Shaolin Monks show, which was really interesting, but I couldn't really see for people blocking the isles- which was really annoying as we had cued for over an hour to get in and were near the front of the line.
On Sunday, we went swimming again. And since it was a nice day (and forecast for rain the rest of the week) Beth and I went to the beach for a few hours. We just relaxed in the sun, but some people had kites or were playing cricket/badmington/rounders and there were dirt bikes.

On the Monday, we went to the town centre (in a red cab), and did a lot of shopping. Then thundering and lightening started and it rained really heavily. On the evening, we went to see Stavros Flatley at Reds. The were really good and interacted with the crowd. The kids were allowed to sit on the dance floor so they could see, but people were standing on chairs and blocking the view for others. I'd also suggest going as soon as Reds opens to get a table and waiting for the act you'd like to see as the tables are taken as soon as the doors open. It's also really really hot in there too!
The next day, we went to the market/fantasy island (on the red bus). The market is really good for getting gifts like candy rocks (etc) and I got some shorts for my dad, that we couldn't find anywhere else. It may seem tacky, but there are some good things if you look for them. At 7pm, we went to the circus. It was really entertaining, but also really warm.
On the Wednesday we took the kids to Hardy's animal farm which is around 5-10 minutes from the camp. We really love it and so do the younger kids. You can go around the farm and feed the animals, there are old tractors, a tractor/horse and cart ride which takes you into the fields to see bulls etc, there's a outdoor park and also an indoor softplay with a cafe. It may be expensive but it is worth what you pay! On the evening, we went to a pub opposite Butlins (Cheers). It's family friendly with an arcade and a childrens disco upstairs, a talking parrot called Charlie and food is served late. We went for a meal and then played on the arcade for a bit.

On our final full day, 10 of us went to Quasar Elite.  It is basically a game we you shoot people with lasers (like paintball but not as aggressive). It seems boring, but its actually really fun and competitive. It's £4pp for half an hour. You are taught how to play and given a health and safety talk before you enter the arena. There are also lockers that you can use as storage in the room where you put your pack and gun on. We have been countless times and its really entertaining and always a laugh- whether you just with friends/family or with strangers. Beth and I went to toy box, treasures and mega treats for some last-minute gifts. Then on the night time, 10 of us went to the on-site Italian Restaurant, Ludo's. It was expensive but the food was good and the staff we very helpful. They pushed tables together and kept the table next to it so we could all sit together. The toilets we're clean and some of the booths had TV's in them. After that, ,my cousin, her friend and Beth and I went to Red's to buy some 'elastic plastic' as we have bought it religiously each year.

There are also loads of things that I didn't do this time, like: Chuckle Bike, mini golf, amusements  bob the builder world, sun and moon pub and play area, outdoor fountains, see the skyline gang, donkey rides, the fairground, the fort play area, zorbs or the train/tractor thing that travels around the entire camp (not sure if it's still on?). You can even book things like football and archery.
Some old (not very good) photos of the above.

My family and I love Butlins Skegness, which is why we've been coming for countless years. The facilities and staff are great and there really is something for everyone- whatever the weather! It really feels like a home from home. We are really sad that this was our last year for a while. My cousin and I were even crying on the coach home! I cannot recommend it enough! Especially if you go in a big group of family/friends, it's lovely to spend time with everyone together. I have never had a bad experience and we are making this out last year as everyone has things they want/need to do like re-decorating or saving for cars/weddings etc.

I would say get to any shows extra early to ensure you get good seats and just be cautious in the swimming pools- but that's obvious.

Thanks for reading!
Bye!!

My Work Experience Experience

Hello,
So two weeks ago, I did my work experience. I was really nervous for the months building up, but as the date crept closer, I started to get more excited.

I did my work experience at a housing company (not sure if I'm allowed to state the company). I didn't go to building sites as I was more interested in social skills and administration.

On the first day, I got the bus to the office and went to the reception desk. My 'supervisor' came to get me and took me on a tour of the building and gave me a fob to get in/out. While she made me a rota, I observed the reception desk and was given an overview of the computer systems. I then made some booklets up. At 5pm, I went home.

The next day, I did some office work. Basically, I took staples from documents, electronic filing and publishing and filing paper documents. I also was given a health and safety induction.

On Wednesday, I looked at some amazing apartments. I then went to a meeting where residents of a building stated their complaints/concerns. On the afternoon, I did more of what I had done the previous day.

On Thursday, I went to look at more apartments and to read a electricity meter. After that, we went to view a house to see if the resident's house was in good enough condition for the resident to move. Then we went to confront people who had had a complaint made against them and politely ask them to improve whatever it was. After that, I sat in and observed a sign-up meeting. It was a bit tense and awkward at some stages.

Then on my last day, I observed reception and renewed the houses on offer. I was given a certificate and a pen-which I think could go into my 'record of achievement'?

Overall, it was a really good experience- even with awkward/ignorant customers. Despite the fact I want to be a Midwife, this work experience has given me more confidence around new people in difficult situations. I loved every minute and would definitely go back again. I would recommend this particular field of work for work experience and just to actually do work experience, as all my friends enjoyed whatever they did too! However, make sure you know how to get to your placement and all the other details.

Today is the last post of the 30 Day Snap and I've saved the best until last.
This afternoon we met 3-week-old Isaac for the first time! He is so cute and quiet- everyone was in awe of him.

I have really enjoyed the 30 Day Snap- even if I was late a few times.

Thank you for reading my post's if you've read them!!

Since I'm doing my work experience next week, I have been given some information about safety etc. I took the time today to read through it all and now know what I should and shouldn't do. I'm quite excited now to be honest! Here's the health and safety signs page of my 'student diary':

This is probably cheating, but I've uploaded posts late more than once now, so it doesn't really make a difference. This picture is of (I think) Monkwearmouth Bridge- which is more widely known as 'the Green Bridge'. This picture was taken walking to the bowling alley yesterday evening. I think it looks really calm and peaceful:

Sorry it's late again but I didn't get home in time to upload this post.
A few weeks ago, my friends and I  took part in a university mentoring scheme. The uni students taught us skill we'll need in the future. At the end of the scheme we were invited to a 'party'. It wasn't really a party, but people from different schools taking part in uni schemes met up and got a certificate and then we all went bowling. I wasn't originally going to go, but I'm glad I did!

After school, I met my Mam and we went shopping! First we went to Deichmann and I got some suede, black wedges. The we went to the new Tesco and bought some clothes and groceries. My Mam saw this bus pass holder and thought I'd love it- I do!! It's a shiny/reflective coral material with a gold hardware bow on the front. It's really simple and I absolutely love it!

30 Day Snap #25 College Experience

If you want to find out more about the 30 Day Snap, click HERE and follow http://sprinkleofglitter.blogspot.co.uk/

A day late, yet again!! Anyway, yesterday afternoon we got the opportunity to go to college for two taster sessions. I choose biology and English(combination). In biology we extracted DNA from a kiwi, answered some questions (in the booklet below) and talked to a student who was on the course- who told us what he does in lessons etc. Then in English we played a memory drawing game of a old Frankenstein film poster, then we analysed the Dracula trailer, played 'guess the word' and then discussed the English courses and options. Overall, I really enjoyed it and I'm glad I've had that insight as it has made me less nervous about going to college in 2014!

30 Day Snap #24 Thick Socks in June!

If you want to find out more about the 30 Day Snap, click HERE and follow http://sprinkleofglitter.blogspot.co.uk/

Despite June being 'summer', it's absolutely freezing. Especially since we've got most the window's open because my cousin came to sand the walls (we're trying to get rid of the dust). So, because I don't like the feeling of bed socks and my slippers are covered in sand, I'm wearing my sport relief 2012 socks and I think the may be for running- not that I'd ever run! How interesting?

So, today I went to my Nana and Grandad's-despite the on-off, heavy rain.
The horrible weather didn't seem to put my little cousin off her ice-cream though! She sat on the sofa and ate it with her fingers, while telling the dog off. Why not? It is summer...

30 Day Snap #22 SWAT Loyalty

If you want to find out more about the 30 Day Snap, click HERE and follow http://sprinkleofglitter.blogspot.co.uk/

I must literally be the only teenager who starts homework on a Saturday night? But it really defines my nature. I always have been and always will be a SWAT. Now, if you are unfamiliar with this term, it basically means a goody-two-shoes, who does homework and may on may not have a tucked in shirt and extremely long, thin tie and a brief case (stereotyping, of course). Here is my Chemistry,Unit C5, homework booklet and revision guide- 'YEY'!

Late, again! Sorry!
So, our sitting room has been in a bit of a state these past few weeks as we've had it plastered and my Mam's boyfriend has been sanding the uneven parts. However, he is only here a few days a month so it's taking forever. My Mam had asked my cousin, who had done the plastering, to come today and finish the sanding so we can move on. I decided I'd leave him a message, but he didn't actually come in the end so this was pointless! Regardless, here is an extremely sandy chair:

If you want to find out more about the 30 Day Snap, click HERE and follow http://sprinkleofglitter.blogspot.co.uk/

Today is yet another boring post as I still have a headache (it is starting to die down now). So I decided to have a relaxing bubble bath before bed in hope that it will have vanished before tomorrow.

As you can see, I am reading Wuthering Heights. It seems interesting but the words are quite old-fashioned and I'm not entirely sure what they mean, but I am getting the general gist of it!

30 Day Snap #19 DIY Fail

If you want to find out more about the 30 Day Snap, click HERE and follow http://sprinkleofglitter.blogspot.co.uk/

So, I have not been productive today due to a permanent headache caused by caffeine deprivation. Anyway, I decided I would attempt to screw a handle back onto my draw that's been lose for months. However, it turns out that it's broken altogether, I don't understand how or why, but it will not tighten back up. I was going to do a before and after, but that's not going to happen now and I have literally done nothing else today- except going to school and then coming home. So here is the before without the after:

Can't believe I wrote that much about a failed DIY task!!

I didn't really do anything today, but a few friends came over after school and we talked and went on my laptop. My Mam bought these mini mugs specifically for when my friend come over so we don't break any of the 'nice' cups. My friends decided to choose which mug was theirs and wrote their name on the bottom of it with fabric marker. Here are the bottoms of their mugs:

As I am sure everyone knows, today is Father's Day. I spent most of the day with my dad watching ninja films (3 ninjas or something, I don't know) and then we went to lay some flowers on my Grandad's grave.
Here is my dad modelling one of the shirts I got him for Father's Day. Bear in mind that he wouldn't stand still, so this is a mug-shot :

30 Day Snap #14 Grandad's Memory

If you want to find out more about the 30 Day Snap, click HERE and follow http://sprinkleofglitter.blogspot.co.uk/

Today is the 9th anniversary of my Grandad's death. He was a lovely, kind-hearted, funny man and I really miss him. I always remember him laughing and making jokes- he never failed to make me smile.
My dad and I are going to lay some flowers on his grave on Sunday, which he shares with my Nana and Uncle, as its father's day and we'll have more time.
Before he died, my Grandad gave me a stuffed rabbit that I think was my Nana's. It is one of a pair and I'm not sure who has the other one. He also gave me his Tetley Tea figures he had collected as I used to play with every time I went to see him.

I treasure what I have left of my Grandad in my memory box along with loads of other things that are special to me.
The figure wearing the glasses, holding a cup of tea really reminds me of my Grandad. I cannot believe he's been gone for 9 years.

RIP Grandad, love and miss you always xxx.

30 Day Snap #10 National Hidradenitis Suppurativa Week 2013

If you want to find out more about the 30 Day Snap, click HERE and follow http://sprinkleofglitter.blogspot.co.uk/

So, today is the first day of National Hidradenitis Suppurativa Week!
What is Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS)? Well it's actually quite a common skin disease, thought to affect around 1% of the UK's population. HS is basically glands on your skin which, for an unknown reason, close up. This then means nothing can get in or out causing a lump/boil under the skin. The lumps are usually painful and may ooze puss and blood and will probably permanently scar skin. People who have HS, like me, are usually really embarrassed so don't want to show/tell anyone. That's what happened to me. I eventually did go to my GP who diagnosed me straight away and referred me to a dermatologist. I now have appointments every three months and am taking a concoction of medication (Pictured below). If you think you have this condition or know someone who might, or even just want to help raise awareness, feel free to share this information or ask any questions in the comments.

30 Day Snap #8 Beach Day!!

Today, since we've been having amazing weather, I went to the beach with my dad and his girlfriend, Ann.We walked along the sea front and then went to see the little bridge where my Nana and Grandad met for their first date or as my dad says: '... where they first courted'.

I am actually really pleased with these photo's and will probably frame some of them as this beach (and the park where the bridge is at) really holds some memories of my childhood. And Seaburn/Roker beach and Roker park are some of my favourite places to go- despite that I really hate sand and insects!
